Next Monday, May 26 — Memorial Day — will be a special day for veterans in Edmonds. Not only will the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery host its annual observance at 11 a.m., but a new Veterans Plaza will be dedicated outside the city’s Public Safety Complex at 1 p.m.

The 32nd Annual Memorial Day event will take place as usual at Edmonds Memorial Cemetery and Columbarium, 100th Avenue West and 15th Street, one block north of the Westgate QFC. The event will occur rain or shine and is approximately one hour long. Street parking is available along 100th Avenue West and 15th Avenue. Parking within the cemetery is limited to those with handicap-parking permits only. Limited seating is available. Guests are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs. Visitors are also invited to stroll the cemetery grounds and take a self-guided tour using one of the cemetery’s walking maps.

Then, at 1 p.m., members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion chapters as well as other veterans groups will be present for the dedication ceremony for Veterans Plaza, at 250 5th Ave. N.

  1. Regarding the new Veterans Plaza and as a veteran, I want to congratulate and thank Strom Peterson, city Council Member and all the many City representatives that were instrumental and/or supportive in making this historic dedication a reality.
