Edmonds police arrest shoplifting suspects near Westgate Elementary Tuesday

We were asked by a reader about police activity in the neighborhood near Westgate Elementary School around 2:30 p.m. Monday. She said:

Several police cars passed me yesterday heading East on 220th and turned on my street (90th Ave W) they yelled at me to keep going and go in my house which was 3 houses down from where they stopped.

According to Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Mark Marsh, police were following up on a reported shoplifting incident at the Aurora Village Marketplace Safeway store. “The female suspect driving the car, a 20-year-old Lynnwood resident, panicked when she saw a police car and started driving recklessly in order to escape,” Marsh said. “The police officers were not pursuing her, they observed her car and had turned around but didn’t chase her.”

Said Marsh: “Officers were searching the area and were able to locate not only the car but all three suspects as well. The two female juvenile suspects, both 17– one a Mill Creek resident the other a Mountlake Terrace resident — were released to adult relatives. with several misdemeanor charges being referred to Snohomish County Juvenile court. The adult driver, a 20-year-old Lynnwood resident, was booked on felony eluding charges into the Snohomish County jail.”
