The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce has announced that local business owners and community boosters Mike and Wendy Popke are the 2014 Grand Marshals of the “An Edmonds Kind of Fourth” Parade.
With an over 100-year tradition, “An Edmonds Kind of Fourth” is a cornerstone in the community, engaging families and businesses and kicking off a summer full of family and community centered activities. “An Edmonds Kind of Fourth” features a 5K fun run/walk, Children’s Parade, Main Parade, evening entertainment and vendors and fireworks that draw more than 25,000 spectators.
The Popkes moved to the Edmonds area in 1995, but they have both worked at Lynnwood Honda for over 30 years — Mike as the general sales manager and Wendy as co-owner of the business along with her family. Lynnwood Honda is a supporter of many events in Edmonds, including the 4th of July celebration, Concerts in the Park, Edmonds Center for the Arts, Edmonds Bird Fest, Taste of Edmonds and Edmonds Community College.
The Popkes were involved in the initial fundraising for the ECA and Mike Popke served as President of the ECA Board for many years. He is currently on the board of the Edmonds Public Facilities District, which oversees ECA operations. Wendy is on the Board of the Edmonds Community College Foundation. They both are actively involved in the automotive industry as well. They enjoy traveling with their two children, but always prefer being home in the Edmonds area.
