In My Edmonds News’ search for the best summertime activities, Michael Burdett of Edmonds Sports Academy (ESA) sent along this notice:

“The Edmonds Sports Academy (ESA) is excited to announce our summer basketball programs. ESA is a local, non-profit sports academy that offers basketball training for all ages, which I founded in July 2011. We have put together an excellent summer for our area youth, with the primary focus on shooting a basketball and ball handling. ESA now has our own shooting machine so one of our programs is using the machine to get our participants 300-1000 shots up while getting correct form training. The kids love this machine!

“ESA is also providing a series of mini camps designed to teach the kids how to be good basketball players. There are a lot of training programs out there for basketball, the problem is the kids become good at doing training but not at becoming good basketball players. We have the best coaches around, including Jeff Wilson, Edmonds Woodway High School Assistant coach, and Greg Turcott, prior Blanchet High School coach and Shoreline Community College coach. At ESA our coaches train our camp participants on how to be good basketball players by working on game situation fundamentals, along with how to score from outside, and how to score off the dribble. These are important fundamentals necessary to play the game at any level.

“I am most excited about ESA’s 3on3 program, which is without a doubt, the most popular program of our summer. It is drop in Fridays, and kids are broken up into even teams and play a double elimination 3on3 tournament. Winners get prizes and for $10 it’s a great deal.”
