My Edmonds Restaurant News: Edmonds kind of cuisine

Lemon caper on fish at Crepe de Paris,
Red Snapper with Lemon and Capers at  Café De Paris,

I believe there is a secret culinary garden somewhere down near our Edmonds Ferry terminal. A plot tucked away, filled with rows of greens and herbs. All of the local cuisine in today’s column was filled with such fresh flavors that can only come right to the table from a local garden.

My last “dinner and a movie” experience was so much fun. A film like One Hundred Foot Journey playing in Edmonds sent me out to get tastes of the cuisine styles, properly sampled in our Edmonds locality of course.

Café De Paris is a treasure we’ve had in our community for over 30 years. Chef Firmin Berclaz stated his restaurant has been open longer than any other single owner establishment in Edmonds. I can see why they have enjoyed staying power. I love French food and it can be difficult to find good restaurants. I was delighted with my lunch. My request for smaller portions, so that I could sample many dishes, was accommodated and shows willingness to please their customers.

I was able to taste two soups; a special Cream of Asparagus had al dente pieces of Asparagus in a wonderful cream base and French onion soup with rich broth of beef stock and slow sautéed onions. I had the hearts of palm salad and need to find out their source of palm hearts… so much better than any I can purchase in a grocery. Dressing is made fresh in house, lovely with the fresh greens and shrimp. A beef bourguignon crepe ( I smelled the wine as it approached, the meat melted in my mouth, the mushrooms and carrots had amazing flavor) allowed me to taste both beef and crepes and still have room for the day’s fresh fish entrée of Red Snapper with Lemon and Capers. Lemon pieces left intact, burst with flavor in the mouth, making this my absolute favorite entrée.

I asked my server if folks came in to dine after seeing the wonderful French cuisine pictured in the film showing just up the street. She said absolutely; I was not the first patron to mention it.

Details are so important! An astute server delivered food at just the right pace and kept my water glass filled with out my noticing. Dishes came out of the kitchen on hot plates that wafted the aroma into the air as they were placed in front of me. Fresh crusty bread was perfect to soak up some of the extra juices on my plates. I managed to save room for Crème Caramel. It was the perfect way to end my meal.

For those who have yet to try out the newest Indian cuisine in Edmonds, Copper Pot will delight your taste buds and create a wonderful impression guaranteed to relegate the past location history to the round file!

Ingredients are fresh, all dishes made every day. My “must taste items” like Mint Chutney and the spinach in their special Spinach Garlic stuffed Naan taste like they were just picked moments before they were served. Mango Chutney is made with fresh mangoes!
The menu has wonderful variety of options to please meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans.

I truly love the fact that they serve goat; both the Masala and the Curry entrees feature melt in your mouth, falling off the bones, tender goat. Ditto the lamb entrees.

Basmati rice is fragrant and servings generous. Roti is crispy and flavorful.

All dishes are served in darling little copper pots, of course!

Restaurant News still has no firm date from Starbucks wine bar in Edmonds. Managers chuckle that folks in Edmonds seem to have better information channels than Starbuck employees.

The owners at The Hook, Seafood and Spirits had hoped to open this summer. Delay is caused by need to update buildings constructed in Perrinville prior to its incorporation by City of Lynnwood. Improvements to meet new “codes” have made an opening date a moving target. I look forward to dining there soon!
