Driftwood’s Theatre of Intriguing Possibilities (TIPS) presents “I’ll be Back Before Midnight” in celebration of the looming Halloween season. The production plays through Saturday, Oct. 24.
Described as a “comic thriller,” audiences will be on the edge of their seats not knowing whether to laugh . . . or scream.
The story centers on Jan and her husband Greg who have rented an old farmhouse in the country where Jan can recover from a nervous breakdown. When their landlord reveals to them a terrible murder that once took place in the farmhouse and the resultant ghost that reputedly stalks the night, Jan’s imagination takes over.
Jan’s mental state worsens when Laura, Greg’s manipulative sister, arrives.
Jan soon finds herself tormented by strange sounds in the night, and visions of the vengeful ghost. Is she having another breakdown? Is someone trying to drive her mad? When she tries to defend herself from this apparition, events take an unexpected turn in a night of unimaginable suspense.
When asked to describe “I’ll Be Back Before Midnight” director Ted Jaquith says “this is a thriller! There may be ghosts. There may be a murderer. This play definitely sets the mood for Halloween. Audiences may be tempted to call out to the actors, “Don’t go in there!”
“I’ll Be Back Before Midnight” is the first TIPs production in Driftwood’s 57th Season. Additional productions of the TIPS program this season include “Proof,” beginning Jan. 14; “Man Defeats Nature”, beginning March 17, 2016; A Special Concert Production featuring Overton Berry and his ensemble performing May 14, 2016; and the “Seventh Annual Festival of Shorts” to be held July 8-10, 2016.
