Guest Artists Ron Carter and Bryan Carter

Jazz musicians Ron Carter and Bryan Carter will share the stage with EWHS Jazz I and Jazz II students, as will the College Place Middle School Jazz Band, this Thursday evening in the MTHS Theater.

Ron Carter is a jazz educator, one of the originators of the Essentially Ellington festival held in NYC each spring, and a freelance musician on saxophone, clarinet and flute. He recently retired from Northern Illinois University (NIU), where he was director of the NIU Jazz Ensemble and the University’s Coordinator of Jazz Studies.

Bryan Carter began drumming at the age of 3 and is fast establishing himself in the jazz world since graduating from the Juilliard School. He has played with artists that include Clark Terry, Wynton Marsalis and Branford Marsalis, performed in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and is globetrotting as a professional musician and teacher.

“Ron and Bryan are here for a whirlwind four days of clinics schools in the area, and we are elated that they are doing this concert with our bands,” said EWHS Music DirectorJake Bergevin.

“This will definitely be an evening to remember – well worth the price of admission that will help the Music Boosters fund the event.”

Kate Labiak, Director of Music at College Place Middle School, who has started many young Edmonds students on their musical journeys, is especially excited about the concert. “This will be the first time that this group of CPMS Jazz kids will be on stage performing with professional musicians like Ron Carter and Bryan Carter. It’s going to be a wonderful experience for them and for everyone who’s in the concert hall!”
