Music director for Once on This Island: A Musical, Edmonds’ local musician Mark Press invites Edmonds-area lovers of theatre and musicals to the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center.

Once on This Island is based upon the novel, “My Love, My Love,” by Rosa Guy. The book and lyrics are by Lynn Ahrens, music by Stephen Flaherty.

Once on This Island tells the story of how a community joins together after a disaster to comfort a child by weaving a folk tale through song and story.

In their tale, Ti Moune, a peasant girl, rescues Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of the island, and falls in love with him.

Unbeknownst to Ti Moune, the gods who preside over the island make a bet with one another over her fate.

Ti Moune pursues Daniel, who has returned to his people, and her journey tests the powers of social-class differences, death, and ultimately, love.
