The Foundation for Edmonds School District held a meet-and-greet Wednesday morning to welcome newly elected Edmonds School District Board members Susan Phillips and Carin Chase. Superintendent Nick Brossoit presented the district’s strategic direction and potential budget changes in future years. School board members also heard how the Foundation, through its fundraising activities, steps in to assist when there is a lack of funding and gaps in student learning.

Among the areas that the Foundation funds: College in the High School Tuition, which allows students in financial need to convert their college-level courses into college credits; PSAT/PLAN Test fees, which has increased test participation to over 85 percent; SMART testing fees, which allows students to test proficient in their native languages, thus earning high school world language credits; and the foundation’s Nourishing Network program, which brings weekend meals to the district’s homeless students.
