  1. Congratulations on your most prestigious New York Times’ essay, Miriam! I admire your enthusiasm and reasoning. Teens your age are often so much more open to the various State and Federal rules that delineate the actual learning that goes into the “process” of voting… something many adults forget to refresh as they grow older and face new laws both on the books and proposed. Who are our fellow-contestants running for offices, both local and national? Both local, district and national? City council men and women, judges, governors, representatives and senators? What are they espousing verbally, in writing, at campaigns, in actionable and proveable behavior? Who knows the history of our beloved country? Who thinks in terms of the U.S. acting as part of the global community? Yes, one individual can inspire great good in the world. As an individual, septagenerian and devoted voter, I am counting on you and teens your age, with your intelligence, thoughtfulness, thoroughness and commitment to pursue your dreams and help show others, young and old, how their singular participation in our diverse, often troubled, yet hopeful world yields peace, tolerance and love. Good Luck!

  2. Congratulation, article is well presented. I do not however believe teens should be allowed to vote except as an advisory vote. This would give them several years of researching and learning that would make them excellent voters once they reach 18. It could promote a lot more family discussions that may not be held now.

  3. Congratulations, Miriam, on your editorial being selected by the New York Times. My father was a world-class copy editor who worked at the Times for 32 years, and it definitely represents and recognizes excellence in both ideas and writing.
