Lynnwood Police are investigating a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting on 204th Street Southwest in Lynnwood on Wednesday just after 6 p.m.

Two vans had been driving down 204th Street Southwest when one of the vans pulled over near 61st Avenue West. The suspect vehicle, a royal blue van with silver markings on the side, then pulled up to the victim’s van and  the passenger shot at the victim’s driver’s side with a handgun. The bullets went through the middle window, behind the driver and passenger in the front seats, Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Wes Deppa said.

204th Street Southwest was closed near 61st Avenue West while detectives investigated.

“Luckily, nobody was hurt,” Deppa said.

Several casings were found at the scene. Detectives also photographed and processed broken glass found in the road.

Preliminary evidence indicates two people were also inside the suspect vehicle. The shooter is described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s to mid-30s with a “round” face.

What happened in the moments leading up to the shooting is still under investigation.

“Preliminary evidence suggests this was not necessarily a road rage incident, but we have ruled nothing out yet,” Deppa said.

The victim’s vehicle was later located on Highway 99 near 194th Street Southwest. The suspect’s vehicle has not yet been located.

“We have some good leads on this,” Deppa said. Detectives are investigating.

A mother was strapping her 1-year-old son into his car seat outside a house located where the shooting happened. Natalia is from Mill Creek, but was visiting a friend in the area. She declined to give her last name.

“This is a family area,” she said. “It’s very scary that this happened when my son was in my arms.”

At first, she said she thought it was fireworks. She looked up because she said she was annoyed that someone was shooting off fireworks while the sun was still up.

Instead of fireworks, she saw the suspect leaning out of his van’s window with a silver handgun. The suspects then sped away, and she called 9-1-1.

204th Street Southwest was closed near the scene while detectives investigated. The road was reopened around 7:20 p.m.
