Sign code public hearing, Shoreline Master Program changes top July 19 city council agenda

city of edmonds logoA public hearing on proposed amendments to the City of Edmonds sign code, which affects sandwich board signs used by many downtown businesses, tops the Edmonds City Council agenda for a combined business meeting and study session this Tuesday, July 19.

The council is also scheduled to further discuss the recently-received State Department of Ecology recommendations regarding the city’s Shoreline Master Program, which include reducing the size of buffers and setbacks around the Edmonds Marsh and how the marsh is categorized using Washington State’s wetlands ratings system.

The following items are among those included in the council’s business meeting agenda:
– Approving the schematic design for the Edmonds Waterfront Center proposed to replace the Edmonds Senior Center, as well as related beach rehabilitation.
– Authorizing Mayor Dave Earling to execute an interlocal agreement with Western Washington University on the Sustainable Cities Partnership.
– Approving two appointees to the Public Facilities District Board, which oversees the Edmonds Center for the Arts. The two candidates — Kevin McKay, Vice President of Finance and Operations for Edmonds Community College and Patrick Mulva, a retired Exxon Mobil executive –will be interviewed at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the regular council meeting, in the Jury Room next to the Council Chambers.

The council is also scheduled to discuss during its study session the idea of a long-range financial planning process for the council and administration to follow, a concept advocated by Councilmember Diane Buckshnis.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Public Safety Complex, 250 5th Ave. N. You can see the complete agenda here.
