Last night, I received an autopay notice from my web hosting company that the myedmondsnews.com domain name had renewed. Around that same time, I began receiving “Congratulations on Your Anniversary” notices from several of my connections on Linked In.

And just like that, it hit me — I’ve been publishing news in Edmonds for seven years.

While that’s a short time compared to our local and regional print publications that have been around decades or even more than a century, seven years is a long time for online news.

And I’m proud to say that I’m as committed as ever to the work that I do: Providing a robust online platform for community news and commentary that connects those who live in or visit our wonderful city with the information they want and the resources they need.

While you have many choices for news, both locally and regionally, here are a few things you should know about our community’s only Edmonds-owned and operated news source:

Our headquarters are right here in Edmonds. We live here, work here, play here. Our writers, photographers and marketing folks not only cover our community, they volunteer for local boards and commissions and perform other good works. And, we also support our community financially through donations and pro bono services for important causes.

Our community connections run deep. Our three-city My Neighborhood News Network covers Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace/Brier, as well as nearby unincorporated areas. It means you get a perspective on the entire area, which is connected by a school district, a fire district and other community services that often overlap.

Our news coverage is nonstop. No one can be everywhere, but we work hard to cover community events, government meetings, breaking news stories or other local happenings. You can find us reporting in the community, all day long (and into the evening as well).

We provide video for many events. We videotape meetings (Civic Field, Waterfront Access and Highway 99 open houses, for example) for those who can’t attend; we live stream our city’s annual Fourth of July parade; we take your public safety questions and submit to local police for answers; we interview candidates for local offices; we showcase Edmonds School District high school athletes for our weekly sports show; we provide live streaming of high school sporting events through our Sound Live Sports Network.

We have a growing list of subscribers who support our work. We don’t make you pay to read current or past articles on our website and we also don’t meter your access so you get charged after reading a few articles. But we do ask for voluntary contributions and are proud to say that hundreds of readers have signed up to support us.

I invite you to join them. It helps us pay for the work of our writers, photographers, ad sales staff and designers as well as covering our web hosting and related costs.

Subscribe for $10 a month and we’ll send you this European-style car sticker:

Subscribe for $20 a month and you’ll receive your choice of a My Edmonds News baseball cap or tote bag.

I am proud to be part of this community and I look forward to many more years of covering Edmonds.

Until next time,

Teresa Wippel, Publisher

  1. Happy Anniversary, Teresa and EDM Staff! Your diligent efforts continue to tie this community together by providing good and not-so-good news, government highs and lows, local and exotic travel stories, lost and found pets, and by celebrating and recognizing the young and not-so-young Edmonds community members’ accomplishments as well as unique talents. Reading MEN is a daily habit, no matter where I travel, always gifting me with the sense of being connected to home. Thank you!!

  2. Congratulations!! You are a wonderful and very important part of our community. Thank you for your dedication and coverage of so many events…when do you sleep, Teresa? Seriously, we are a better, richer community because of MyEdmondsNews!!
