The Nick of Time Foundation will be offering a free on-site heart screening for students and athletes (ages 14-24) at Kamiak High School Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The event is open to any students in that age group, regardless of what high school they attend.
The screening, the closest one to any Edmonds School District high schools for the 2016-17 school year, will be in the Kamiak High School gym, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo. Appointments are first-come, first-served and can be reserved by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the Kamiak HS Athletics Department at 425-366-5470.
The screening aimed at identifying heart problems that typically are undiagnosed in physicals. It will be similar in structure to a blood drive and takes about 30 minutes per student. This video gives you an idea of what the screening process looks like.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death in exercising young athletes. Many have an undiagnosed heart abnormality with no symptoms until death. NoTF has screened approx. 7000 students and young athletes over the last 3 years. The Nick of Time Foundation’s goal is to promote awareness of undiagnosed heart disease and educate the public to the warning signs and prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death in youth.
