The following story was written by two students at Terrace Park K-8 school, which draws students from across the Edmonds School District.

We had the amazing opportunity to interview the talented comedian Kermet Apio, who has performed in most states and around the world. During the interview with Apio, we had the pleasure of asking him questions about his career, life, and Edmonds Comedy Night.

Apio is based in Mountlake Terrace and has done Edmonds Comedy Night for 10 years, but has been doing comedy for 25 years. Edmonds Comedy Night donates the proceeds from ticket sales to the Edmonds School District. Apio also donates a lot of his free time to the Terrace Park PTA as well.

Before becoming a comedian, he used to work at United Airlines. During that time, he did not know that his passion in life was comedy, but he grew to love it. He enjoys watching people laugh; therefore, his passion is his love for comedy. So, at a young age, he didn’t know he wanted to do this, but he loved jokes and liked the feeling of making someone laugh. People across the United States seem to love Apio’s comedy, too.

When Apio was starting out as a comedian, he started performing at comedy clubs doing open mic nights with other fellow comedians. When he first started out, he had stage fright, but has grown out of it, and is loved across the United States. Like many comedians, Apio has had to overcome hecklers. He says, “It’s just part of comedy and you have to face it and move on with the show.”

Some people in his life did not believe that Apio could make a career out of comedy. They tried to put him down, but look where he is now. He is now best known for being the winner of the Great American Comedy Festival in Norfolk, Nebraska. Apio has also been featured on Comedy Central and NBC. He looked up to a hilarious comedian named Brian Regan and always loved the clean comedy that he produced. Later, Apio got to go on tour with Regan, who became one of his idols. That was a very exciting opportunity for him. Kermet Apio has performed in 47 different states and in Hong Kong, Israel and New Zealand. He says, “Traveling gets tiring and exhausting, but I love the show. Even though it’s a long drive, any passion in show business will be difficult. With my job though, it’s worth it.”

Edmonds Comedy Night occurs annually, this year Feb. 17 and 18, 2017. The event features four talented comedians. In fact, last year’s event featured Jackie Kashian, David Crowe and Andrew Rivers, as well as Kermet Apio. Edmonds Comedy Night supports the children in the Edmonds School District and offers benefits for the students. Edmonds Comedy Night is an ideal place to go for a great time with lots of laughs and helps the children of the Edmonds School District at the same time.
