Cool idea: Firefighters help kids beat heat with frozen treats

They may be used to dealing with warmer situations, but local firefighters found a novel way to help kids cool off in Edmonds Saturday afternoon — by turning part of their fire truck into a Popsicle cooler.

Melissa Beard, a firefighter/EMT with Snohomish County Fire District 1, said the firefighters — all from Edmonds Station 16 — got the idea while passing by a group of kids at an outdoor rummage sale at Edgewood Baptist Church on 76th Avenue West.

Popsicles were purchased and a side bin on the fire truck was filled with ice, Beard said, becoming an instant cooler for the frozen treats.
