Save the date: Edmonds Photomarathon set for Sept. 9

The Edmonds Photomarathon is set for Sept. 9, 2017, with a top prize this year of $500. This annual event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Edmonds, is a digital photo contest, but with a twist. All you need to participate is a digital camera or a smart phone and a little imagination.

A photo marathon is a competition where photographers are given certain topics to interpret within a time limit. In this case, six topics will be announced at 10 a.m. (and posted online). Participants may start at any time after that, and will have until 4 p.m. to take their photos and submit their best shots by email, only one per topic. All photos must be shot in Edmonds, and on the day of the event. Apps or editing features (like Instagram, etc.) are not allowed — making for a fun, spontaneous effort for amateur as well as professional photographers alike. Topics are broad and open ended, allowing for creative interpretation.

The competition will begin at the offices of RBC Wealth Management, 303 5th Ave. S., in downtown Edmonds. Registration is $25, for individuals or for teams of up to four people. Prizes will be awarded for best interpretation of each topic. The top prize of $500 will be awarded for the overall Best of Show. Awards will be presented at a Reception and Exhibit on Oct. 19, at FIS (Foundation for International Services, Inc), 505 5th Ave. S., Edmonds. All photos will be on display at that time.

Proceeds of this event go to support scholarships and community service projects of the Rotary Club of Edmonds.
