Edmonds-Woodway High School senior Oliva Olson has a strong sense of community, but there is a special place in her heart for our military veterans. Three-time winner of the Veterans of Foreign Wars student essay contest, Olson is always looking for new ways to honor our community and those who have served and sacrificed for it.
“I feel so fortunate to live in this community and to enjoy the freedoms that many have given so much to preserve,” she said “It’s just how I give back.”
Olson recruited some of her EWHS musician classmates to donate their time and talents for a summertime concert that included an eclectic mix of sounds in the Veterans’ Plaza Saturday. The event featured a string quartet, a violin-cello duet and a small jazz combo, offering something for every taste among the estimated 50 citizens who gathered to listen and enjoy.
While the concert was free, donations were accepted to benefit veterans plaza operations and so far the effort has raised $871, Olson said.
