McDonald McGarry Insurance collecting cell phones for soldiers through March 23

Do you have an old cell phone or two at your home or office? Once again, Edmonds-based McDonald McGarry Insurance is partnering with Cell Phones for Soldiers to collect and recycle your cell phones. These recycled phones don’t need to be in working order – gently used and broken phones are gladly accepted.

Cell Phones for Soldiers has provided over 300 million minutes of free talk time to troops overseas through its calling card program, Minutes That Matter. Cell phones collected will also help support Helping Heroes Home, an organization that assists veterans with emergency funds to alleviate communication challenges and other hardships. Each phone collected can provide up to two and a half hours of phone time to soldiers overseas.

McDonald McGarry will be open and collecting phones from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays through March 23. McDonald McGarry Insurance is located at 630 Main St. in Edmonds. For more information, call McDonald McGarry Insurance at 425-774-3200 or email

  1. Morning! I’m one of the people organizing the event with McDonald McGarry. If your phone has a SIM card, that piece should be removed prior to donating the phone. If you are able, you can do a factory reset on the phone to wipe off all of the personal information. That said, if your device can’t be reset, it can still be donated. The recycling partner follows Department of Defense standards for wiping hard drives and devices so your information would be erased at that point. Thanks!
