Starting today (Tuesday, Oct. 6), 72nd Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Olympic View Drive and 181st Street, according to the City of Edmonds. The road detour is expected to last two weeks around the clock.
The detour will have flaggers present between the hours of 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The detour is necessary for the construction of a retaining wall and traffic barrier at the intersection of Olympic View Drive and 72nd Avenue. While the construction is ongoing, 72nd Avenue will only be wide enough to accommodate one vehicle.
The detour route will be signed to divert traffic around the work zone using 181st Street to  Olympic View Drive. Drivers are also encouraged to use 180th Street as an alternate route to Olympic View Drive. Local access for residents who live immediately north of Olympic View Drive will be maintained.
Questions should be directed to construction manager Phillip Riggins at 425-457-3251.
