The courtship between the Edmonds City Council and Snohomish County Fire District 1 continued in the City Council chambers last night, as Fire District 1 commissioners joined the council members and Edmonds Mayor Gary Haakenson for coffee, cookies and a roundtable discussion about the pros and cons of the agreement.
The City Council scheduled last night’s meeting specifically to allow direct conversation between the Council and the Commissioners, who until now have worked directly with Haakenson to craft a contract that would cover the sale of Edmonds Fire Department services to the Fire District.
The Council also heard from Tim Hoover, president of the Edmonds Firefighters Local 1828, who noted that the union members voted unanimously to support the sale, which would result in firefighters becoming Fire District 1 employees.
More details to follow later today.
