Edmonds police are investigating the apparent suicide this morning of a 66-year-old man at Brackett’s Landing near the ferry terminal. According to an Edmonds Police Department news release, police and fire officials were dispatched to a reported gunshot at 91 Main St. When police arrived, they located the man with a single gunshot wound to the head.
Fire department paramedics responded but the man never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that witnesses reported seeing the man sitting by himself on a log near the water’s edge since about 7:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., witnesses heard a single gunshot and then observed the man lying on the beach where he had been sitting. Police said there wasn’t anyone near the man when the gun was fired.
A handgun and an envelope addressed to police, which included identification and instructions regarding next of kin, were found near his body. The man’s identity hasn’t been released.
