A crowd of several hundred people packed Centennial plaza to officially launch the holiday season Saturday night in Edmonds with Christmas carols, a visit from Santa via fire truck and the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree, all sponsored by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce.

Cascade Bank provided cider and cookies, the Edmonds Museum handed out bags of freshly popped popcorn and PCC Natural Markets distributed free tote bags to those in attendance. In addition, Snohomish County Fire District No. 1, which will begin providing fire service for Edmonds on Jan. 1, 2010, passed out bright red fire hats to delighted children. Holiday music was provided by the Maplewood Middle School Jazz Band as well as children and adult singers from North Sound Church.
