For your weekend…

The weather will be partly sunny (and cold!) today if you want to take the kids or the dog to the beach. It’s a good weekend for a movie: the Edmonds Theater at 415 Main St. is showing Disney’s 3-D “A Christmas Carol” with Jim Carrey (rated PG with some scary sequences/images) at 2:45, 4;45 and 6:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with an extra 8:45 p.m. show on Saturday night.

Or, enjoy some live theater at nearby Edmonds Community College (19920 68th Ave. W. in Lynnwood), where the drama department is presenting the “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” a 1930s classic featuring a cranky critic with a broken hip, convicts, penguins, a backstabbing actress, cockroaches, a romantic reporter, and a sincere secretary. Shows at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 19-21; matinee: 2 p.m., Sunday; and a sign-interpreted performance: 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19 in the Black Box Theatre, Mukilteo Hall. Tickets: $9 general admission and $6 students/seniors

Coming up Monday: It’s less than two weeks until Thanksgiving, so menu planning starts in earnest now. My Edmonds News has asked some of our town’s famous foodies, including Seattle Times food columnist Nancy Leson and personal chef Karen Rosenzweig, for their favorite recipes, and we will be including them here on Monday.
