Shari Storm and her husband moved to Edmonds just weeks before their second daughter was born in 2007. While they were primarily looking for a better place to raise their young family, Storm didn’t know it would also be a decision that would change the course of her future.
“I didn’t realize how much more I could accomplish by cutting my commute time in half. The hour I saved every day commuting to my job at Verity Credit Union in North Seattle was what I used to craft my book proposal and build my platform. I never could have worked full time, raised my kids and published a book without finding one more hour in each day.”
Storm’s book, “Motherhood is the New MBA: Using Your Parenting Skill to be a Better Boss,” was published by St. Martin’s Press in September 2009.
“I’ve been thrilled by the reception of the idea that the skills you learn while raising children are the skills you need to manage people on the job and to be a good employee. The book was blurbed by a Pulitzer Prize winner. It’s been featured in Redbook, on Martha Stewart’s radio show and even the Costco Connection newsletter. We recently sold the rights in Brazil and so it will be translated to Portuguese.”
What’s next for Storm? She will be doing a reading and book signing at Edmonds Book Shop at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Jan.21. “As we all know, that is also a Third Thursday, so the galleries will be open and downtown will be festive. I hope a lot of people can stop by and buy a book — my book or any book! Just support our local, independent book store!”
Shari, your book is next on my reading list! Congrats! Priya Cloutier
