Edmonds-Woodway jazz band earns 3rd trip to Essentially Ellington Festival

Congratulations are in order for the Edmonds-Woodway High School jazz band, which once again been invited to the prestigious Essentially Ellington competition in New York City May 8-10.

Edmonds-Woodway is one of only 15 bands nationwide chosen to perform in the 15th annual competition, which this year also features two other Seattle-area jazz bands — from Roosevelt and Garfield high schools.

This is the third year that Edmonds-Woodway has been invited; the school also competed at Essentially Ellington in 2003 and 2007.

  1. Edmonds should be incredibly proud, not only of the EWHS Jazz Band, but the incredibly robust and energized music program in our school district. With so many other demands on our time and money, this investment provides a positive creative outlet, great lessons in discipline and practice, and keeps more kids engaged in all aspects of school.
To be going to Essentially Ellington for the THIRD time in seven years, from a little suburban district like ours, is testament to how special our district is. Way to go, Edmonds Schools Music!
