Sunday: ‘First Draft’ engages community in creation of dramatic work

One of the unique features of a community theater is its ability to engage a local audience. On select Sundays, including Feb. 7, the Driftwood Players present “First Draft,” where the audience gets to take part in the creative process that goes into completing an original dramatic work.

Actors dramatize the work “readers-theatre” style as an audience reacts and the author sees what works and what doesn’t. After the reading is done there is a Q&A session with the dramatist.

This live arts experience will be presented free to the Edmonds community at the Wade James Theater, 950 Main St., Sunday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m.

Here’s the synopsis of the featured work, “The Beacon,” a comedy/drama, written by Keith McGregor and directed by Renee Gilbert:

“In the small town of Shady Oaks, Mississippi, two parents, in separate families, try, with varying degrees of success, to guide their adult children in the directions which they have chosen for their offspring. Parents plan and children revolt, with results that range from the serious to the hilarious.”
