EWHS Drill and Pom teams take first place in district

Congratulations to the Edmonds-Woodway High School Drill, Dance and Pom teams, who received awards at the district competition Saturday, March 7.

In a field of 13 teams and 20 performances,  the EWHS Drill and Pom teams each received first place awards. The Dance team placed as well,  and all teams qualified for the State Competition held at the Sundome in Yakima at the end of March.

“What an amazing group of girls”,  said Coach Deb Johnson. “The Edmonds Woodway Drill Team has shown that hard work, perseverance and enthusiasm will bring great rewards. I am so proud of this team and all that they have accomplished so far this season. There’s no stopping them now. On to the WIAA State Dance/Drill Championships on March 25. I am honored to coach this team.”

Coach Johnson also extends an invitation to the Edmonds community to attend the March 23 Friends and Family Night, the annual dessert and performance night hosted by the team and parents. The event is free, with the intention of  giving back to those who support the teams during the 12-month-long season. “Friends and Family Night always has a tremendous turnout. It gives the teams one last “dress” rehearsal before State and it allows our team members and families to serve the community that loyally supports us throughout the year,”  Johnson said.

Friends and Family Night will be at EWHS from 7-9 p.m. March 23. While the event is free, donations will be accepted for community organizations supported by the Drill team — Behind the Badge and Annie’s Kitchen — along with the EWHS Drill Scholarship Fund. The drill team this year has already donated over $600 to Behind the Badge Foundation, which is dedicated to better serving law enforcement families and their agencies. The teams also  volunteer at Annie’s Community Kitchen, which serves over 200 meals weekly to those in need.
