It’s spring sports season in Edmonds, and athletes at both Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale high schools can be found on the baseball and softball diamonds, golf courses, soccer fields, tennis courts and running tracks between now and early May.My Edmonds News’ sports contributor Michael Johnson has a profile here of some of the sports teams, with more to follow in the coming weeks. Edmonds-Woodway Boys and Girls Golf
Last Friday, March 19, the girls and boys varsity golf teams had their first varsity match of the year, participating in the Edmonds School District Golf Tournament. Both teams came out as team champions, with the boy’s shooting a team total 192 strokes. Mountlake Terrace came in second with 218, Meadowdale 220, and Lynnwood 253.
The girls won, posting a score of 113 points, with Mountlake Terrace scoring 56, Lynnwood 54 and Meadowdale 33. Both teams have their first league match Tuesday, March 23. The boys face off against Shorecrest, Shorewood and Lynnwood at the Nile Country Club, while the girls take on Meadowdale and Glacier Peak, also at the Nile. Both matches start at 3 p.m.
Edmonds-Woodway Boys Golf Fundraiser
On May 8, the Edmonds-Woodway boys golf team will be holding a fundraiser event at Nile Golf Course. The event will begin at 10 a.m., and tee times and foursomes are now being arranged. For more information, contact coach Tom Davis a davisth@edmonds.wednet.edu.
Edmonds-Woodway Fastpitch
The Edmonds-Woodway girls fastpitch team got off to a rough start, losing their season opener 16-2 to Lake Stevens on March 15. The team returns three players from last year, and inexperienced players stepping into new roles, including a freshman starting pitcher. They begin league play on Tuesday at home against Lynnwood. First pitch for the varsity squad is at 6 p.m.
 Edmonds-Woodway Baseball
The Edmonds-Woodway baseball team has notched two wins so far. On Monday, March 15, the Warriors beat Oak Harbor 15-7. Winning pitcher was Brandon Lowe. E-W scored another non-league victory Wednesday, March 17, beating Monroe 12-2 in five innings. Winning pitcher was Derek Callahan, with a home run by Austin Jones.
The Warriors begin league play this week against Shorecrest, facing the Scots at Shorecrest at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, followed by an E-W home game at 4 p.m. Thursday. (Thanks to parent Wendy Jones for submitting the baseball info!)
