Edmonds-Woodway’s girls basketball team will bring a new piece of hardware home to the high school’s trophy case Monday after defeating Moses Lake 44-38 Saturday to earn fifth place in the 4A girls state basketball tournament.
It was the first time that a girls basketball team from Edmonds-Woodway had appeared at state since 1993, and the Lady Warriors made the most of it — bouncing back from a first-round loss to state power Auburn Riverside and beating their next three opponents.
The Lady Warriors, who have no seniors on their team, had a 40-29 lead after three quarters, but weren’t able to get on the board until near the end of the fourth, fighting off a strong Moses Lake comeback.
Angela Woods led the Warriors with 12 points while Ashley Albertson had 10. As of Saturday morning, Albertson was leading the state tourney in rebounding, with 49 overall.
