After reading through 87 submissions from across the U.S. and Canada, the Edmonds-based Driftwood Players have announced the final eight short plays selected for the theater’s First Annual Festival of Shorts. The 10- to 15-minute selections include the following:
“A Womb with a View” by Rich Orloff (NY,NY)
“The Art of Love, American Masters” by Kevin Six (San Diego, CA)
“People Like Us” by Chris Shaw Swanson (Westerville, OH)
“A Very Lovely Dress” by D. Richard Tucker (Kent, WA)
“Seldom is Heard” by Mary Steelsmith (Los Angeles, CA)
“Coming Clean” by Ann Teplick (Seattle, WA)
“Birth” by David Alan Morrison (Seattle, WA)
“The End of a Perfect Game” by Jay Rehak (Chicago, IL)
While the actual performances will be July 9 and 10, at 8 p.m., the Driftwood Players are holding auditions for the Festival of Shorts this weekend: Saturday, May 22 starting at 2 p.m. and Sunday, May 23 starting at 7 p.m. at the Driftwood Administrative Offices, 306 Main St.
Parts are available for men and women of all ages and ethnicities. Prepare a short contemporary monologue and be prepared to read from the scripts, as you will be auditioning for all directors at the same time. Also bring a resume and a recent photo.
