My Edmonds News online news partner The Seattle Times reported Wednesday that a Seattle man accused of raping a woman outside an Edmonds supermarket when he was arrested on Sunday night is expected to be charged Wednesday with second-degree rape, according to a spokesman for the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jose Madrigal, 46, was arrested outside a Safeway store after a passerby heard a woman crying for help and saw what appeared to be an assault in progress, the Times said. Edmonds police Officer Nat Rossi arrived a short time later and saw a man on top of a woman near the bushes on the north side of the building in the 23600 block of Highway 99, according to booking paperwork released Wednesday by the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the Times, Rossi said that as he walked toward the building he could hear a woman crying and yelling for help, booking paperwork said. The woman told police that the man who raped her was a stranger who offered her $35 for sex. When the woman refused the offer the man followed her and then forced her into the bushes near the supermarket, booking paperwork said.
