Local pitchers playing role in University of Portland’s baseball success

Two pitchers from Edmonds-area high schools are making their presence known on the 26th-ranked University of Portland baseball team this spring. Freshman pitcher Chris Johnson, a 2009 Meadowdale grad, pitched seven shut-out innings as Portland defeated 19th-ranked Oregon 3-1 Tuesday night.

The Pilots’ Owen Jones, Edmonds-Woodway class of 2007, pitched seven scoreless innings against Seattle University last Saturday.

Kramer Scott, Edmonds-Woodway class of 2008, also plays for Portland. In addition, Blaine Hardy, E-W class of 2005, played for the Pilots for one year before transferring to Bellevue Community College and then Lewis-Clark State. Hardy is now playing minor league baseball in Arkansas, and was recently featured in our weekly High School Sports Buzz.

Tuesday night’s victory marked the 11th consecutive win for the Pilots, who now stand at 30-9 overall and 11-1 in the West Coast Conference.
