Suspect arrested in rape of Edmonds woman Sunday

Edmonds police arrested a 46-year-old Seattle man Sunday night after he allegedly raped an Edmonds woman on the north side of the Edmonds Safeway store at 236th Street and Highway 99.

According to Edmonds Police Sgt.Mike Blackburn, police responded to a report of a passerby who heard a female crying for help and then observed what appeared to be an assault in progress. Edmonds Police Officer Nat Rossi arrived within three minutes to find an adult man on top of a female near the bushes on the north side of the store building.

The officer immediately arrested the man and summoned aid for the woman.

According to Blackburn, officers learned that the suspect began following the woman as she walked westbound on 236th Street Southwest. Just west of Highway 99, in the 8200 block of 236th Street, the suspect forced the woman to the bushes on the south side of the roadway where he assaulted her.

The suspect was unknown to the woman, who was transported to a local hospital for medical attention, Blackburn said.

Police arrested the man for rape and booked him into jail. During the course of the investigation, questions arose regarding the suspect’s true identity. After taking fingerprints, police confirmed his identify and found an outstanding warrant for his arrest from U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

  1. It was nice that the passerbyer called the police but they should have jumped in and stopped the guy and then called the police, sometimes you got to throw fear aside and do what you got to do

  2. What is wrong with just giving praise without the usual critical chaser? Here’s a story that I’ll offer as a rebuttal to your “but they should have jumped in…do what you got to do” comment. A man in NYC that was helping a woman that was being attacked died after he was stabbed by the attacker. He was laying in the street bleeding for over an hour with people walking by but doing nothing at all to help. Is there a slight chance that the maybe the passerby in Edmonds didn’t want to be in the same position as the now dead good samaritan in NY?

For more on the story, Google “samaritan stabbed in new york city”.

  3. I think it is better that the passerby called 911 because if he/she would have jumped in and gotten hurt, who would have called then? Then you have 2 victims and no suspect. This person did the right thing.

  4. What an outrage! The witness should have had the courage to help this woman. It is too bad an Armed Citizen was not there to help (When seconds count, the police are only minutes away!). I hope the woman buys a pistol, learns how to protect herself, and is ready for the next rapist. How many women will be raped and murdered before we protect ourselves? The illegal alien should not have been in the United States, he had been deported at least three time before. Will Centro de la Raza say anything about this horrible rapists’ crime, or demand citizenship for such an evil person? Arizona is correct with their new law. Something had to be don, the federal government will not do its job.
