The Edmonds waterfront provide the perfect backdrop for the Edmonds chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) when members participated in the annual TOPS Walk Washington last Saturday. The purpose of the annual nationwide event is to encourage healthy activity among members while also promoting TOPS Club Inc., according to Laurie Dressler, Edmonds TOPS chapter spokesperson.
Eight members of the local group and one guest completed the two-mile walk along the waterfront, and additional miles were contributed by other members who walked in other places that day, Dressler said. The group’s cumulative total mileage — estimated at 25-plus miles — is reported to the national group, and each participant earns a badge.
This year, volunteer support staff member John Quast (also known affectionately as the water boy) provided water and healthy snacks for the finishers. “Apparently the water boy had to fend off the occasional pretender, who was more interested in the strawberries than the walk,” Dresser said. “He did an excellent job, and the snacks were preserved for the tired walkers.”
The Edmonds TOPS group meets every Tuesday morning at the Maplewook Presbyterian Church, 19523 84th Ave. W. in Edmonds. Weigh-in starts at 8:30 a.m. and the hour-long meeting begins at 9:45 a.m. Guests are welcome to attend any meeting. For more information, call 425-742-3724 or email topsandkops@gmail.com
