Edmonds prepared for a festive Fourth on Sunday

Edmonds is ready to paint the town red, white and blue Sunday with an old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration, and you’re invited to enjoy the fun.

11 a.m. Start the day off with the Fourth of July 5 K Fun Run or Walk sponsored by Running in Motion. Strollers welcome, and kids under 12 are free. You can register here and pick up your race packet starting at 9:45 a.m. at City Park, Third and Walnut.

12:30 p.m. Line the parade route (see map) to take in the children’s parade, followed by the main parade at 1 p.m. Marching bands, clowns, floats, and more than a few sign-waving politicians will wind their way through Edmonds’ city streets.

From 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. you can also enjoy live big band patriotic music and free popcorn at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 4th Ave. N., where North Sound Church’s Northwest Gospel Jazz Band and singers will perform. The entire center will be open to the public for use of restrooms, as a way to escape the heat (or rain), or for community members to simply explore the facility.

3 p.m. Return to City Park for the Edmonds Firefighters Waterball Competition.

7:30  p.m. Find a place to lay down your blanket at the Civic Stadium grounds, 6th & Bell, and enjoy the evening entertainment until the fireworks show, scheduled to start at 10 p.m. (Remember, no alcohol, pets or personal fireworks allowed.)

Note that Edmonds Fourth of July activities are sponsored by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, which is gratefully accepting donations to offset the significant cost of putting on the day’s events.
