Efforts to help veterans return to civilian life focus of Edmonds talk

The challenges facing war veterans as they return to civilian life after experiencing the stresses of battle will be the topic next Tuesday morning, July 20, when Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers welcomes Dr. Peter Schmidt from Edmonds Community College as its guest speaker.

Schmidt leads the college’s Veterans Resource team and has been instrumental in efforts to welcome returning veterans to school and help them succeed.  Last November, Edmonds Community College unveiled on its campus the “Boots to Books” monument, which shows a pair of worn combat boots resting unlaced atop a pile of new college textbooks.

Guests are welcome to attend this event.  Breakfast starts at 7 a.m. at the Edmonds Yacht Club and the cost is $15 paid at the door. Schmidt’s presentation will conclude at approximately 8:30 a.m. with a question-and-answer session to follow. To RSVP or for more information, contact Jamie Reece of the Rotary of Club of Edmonds Daybreakers at 206-910-1439.
