Marko Liias

(Prefers Democratic Party)

Elected Experience:
I have been your state representative since 2008. I also served on the Mukilteo City Council for two years.

Other Professional Experience:
I owned and operated a small business for five years and learned how hard it can be to survive in a tough economy.

Education:
I graduated from Kamiak High School in Mukilteo and I worked my way through Georgetown University with the help of scholarships and student loans.

Community Service:
I serve on the board of the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, volunteer with the Kamiak High School Debate Team, and I’m a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Coastal Conservation Association.

Statement:

It has been a privilege to serve as your state representative for the last two years.  Even in the midst of this tough economy, I am proud of what we have accomplished together.  We have balanced the budget, invested in schools, and created nearly 100,000 jobs. Our work isn’t done, and that is why I am asking for your vote again.  We must fully fund our schools, support small businesses and create jobs.  If you send me back to Olympia, I will continue to work hard to find common sense solutions. I ask for your vote on Election Day.

Statement:
It’s time for smaller, smarter government to bring back jobs and excellent schools. State spending has grown much faster than inflation and population, and high taxes are chasing jobs away; our state has 600,000 unemployed or underemployed! I support lowering taxes, allowing principals more control of budgets, curriculum, and staff, and following our State Auditor’s recommendations to cut costs. As a former single parent, I oppose cutting from education, public safety, and caring for the vulnerable; these are our state Constitutional priorities. I pledge to never vote for higher taxes. I’ll fight for common-sense government. I ask for your vote!

Community Service:
I am proud of my time working with children for over 25 years. Edmonds C.C., Holy Cross, O’Dea, Mid-City football, Edmonds Boys Club, Lynnwood Girls Fast Pitch, Ed-Lynn Youth Club,Holy Rosary

Statement:

My platform is an advocacy of the senior generation. As seniors, we have a major impact on the state. A House Committee on Aging should provide protection for our seniors’ needs.  Medicaid, prescription prices, insurance discrimination, fraud, property tax discounts, senior housing and jobs for seniors need to be priorities. We all have a critical interest in senior issues because you are one, know one or are going to be one! Political parties have torn us down the middle. As a moderate independent, I believe the repair can only be made from the middle, not from the extreme sides.
