Edmonds-area fire calls for Oct. 14-20

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 354 calls the week of Oct. 14-20: 285 emergency medical aid calls, 26 fires, 17 motor vehicle collisions, six service calls, 17 automatic fire alarms, two natural gas leaks and one carbon monoxide alarm. The following calls occurred in or near Edmonds:

Oct. 14
MOBILE HOME FIRE. At 6:49 p.m., firefighters responded to a small fire at A mobile home in the 23500 block of Highway 99 in Edmonds. A neighbor heard a smoke alarm sounding in the mobile home and could see flames in the kitchen. The neighbor called 9-1-1 and used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out. No one was inside the mobile home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. Damage is estimated at $1,000. Investigators determined the fire was started by a candle.

KITCHEN FIRE.  At 9:50 p.m., firefighters responded to a small kitchen fire at a home in the 21800 block of 54th Avenue West in Mountlake Terrace. The homeowner had just finished using the microwave oven when he saw flames in the appliance. The homeowner yelled for help. His neighbor responded and threw water on the microwave to knock down the flames. The house was full of smoke when firefighters arrived. They cleared out the smoke and made sure the fire had not extended into the walls or attic. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $500. Investigators determined the fire was most likely started by an electrical problem in the microwave.

Oct. 15

COLLISION. At 12:08 a.m., a car spun around and slammed into an embankment on the ramp from 220th Street Southwest to northbound I-5. Firefighters transported one patient to Harborview Medical Center.

Oct. 16
BICYCLIST HIT BY A CAR. At 4:13 p.m., a bicyclist was hit by a car at Olympic View Drive and Puget Drive in Edmonds. Firefighters transported the injured bicyclist to Swedish/Edmonds.

COLLISION. At 4:25 p.m., firefighters responded to a three-car collision in the 1000 block of Puget Drive in Edmonds. Two patients were transported to Swedish/Edmonds.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH. At 5:30 p.m., firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Edmonds after responding to a motorcycle crash on southbound I-5 south of 236th Street Southwest.

Oct. 17
CAR FIRE.  At 2:46 a.m., firefighters extinguished a car fire on southbound I-5 north of 164th Street Southwest.

DUMPSTER FIRE. At 12:19 p.m., firefighters extinguished a Dumpster fire at a school behind a home in the 2000 block of 201st Pl. SW east of Lynnwood.

Oct. 18
TRUCK FIRE. At 11:55 a.m., firefighters responded to a garbage truck on fire in the 11500 block of Heberlein Road in Woodway.

Oct. 20
COLLISION. At 6:26 a.m., a pickup truck hit a pole, knocked down power lines and came to rest against a building at 196th Street Southwest and Puget Drive in Edmonds. Firefighters transported the driver to Swedish/Edmonds.
