Saturday reminders: Halloween Howl, Arista wine tasting, Prop. 1 meeting

Dozens of dogs in costume are expected at today's Halloween Howl at Edmonds dog beach.

Bring your pooch to the Off-Leash Area Edmonds Dog Beach today for the annual Halloween Howl, featuring a dog costume contest, silent auction and raffle, and pet-friendly vendor booths. The event runs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the dog beach, located at 498 Admiral Way, with the costume contest beginning at 1 p.m. And remember to save your dog’s costumer for next weekend’s Doggie Dress Up contest, being sponsored byMy Edmonds News and the Posh Pooch . The contest runs from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 at the Posh Pooch, 22805 100th Ave. W., and is open to all. The grand prize? A day of free doggie day care.

– Community meeting on Proposition 1, which would add $40 to the $20 fee now assessed on all vehicles registered in Edmonds to fund city  street-improvement projects, from 11 a.m.-noon at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 326 Admiral Way.

And tonight is the last evening to see Edmonds’ playwright Jeff Stillwell’s dramatic comedy, “A Dropped Stitch,” the story of a woman who struggles to free herself from her mother’s fears to become the artist she has always dreamed of.
