Edmonds police are currently investigating a one-car motor vehicle collision in the area of 88th Avenue West and 196th Street Southwest (otherwise known as State Route 524) in Edmonds that occurred just before 7 a.m. this morning.
There are no serious injuries but the vehicle did strike a utility pole, which has necessitated the closure of 196th Street Southwest from 84th Avenue West to 88th Avenue West. Traffic is being re-routed. The roadway is expected to reopen at any time.
We were re-routed at 6:50 this morning around that area so it couldn’t have happened at 8. Typo?
Thanks, Brooke. It was a typo – supposed to be before 7 a.m. – and it’s fixed.
I believe this occurred around 625am actually, as we saw an Edmonds PD cruiser running with full lights and sirens up Maplewood toward the scene in pitch darkness at 630a.
Could be. The time of “just before 7” came from the Edmonds PD spokesperson.
Just received the latest from Edmonds PD – call came in at 6:26 a.m. Great job, My Edmonds News correspondents!
I had lived there on 88th and 196th growing up and that is a bad corner even in daylight, I have seen more cars go over the rock ledge into the maplewood rock and gem club building countlesss times…hope all is good now!
