A Thanksgiving message from Edmonds Mayor Mike Cooper

As Thanksgiving approaches, I would like to wish residents of Edmonds, our city council, city staff and their families a happy, restful and safe holiday.

Our city has withstood many challenges in the past year. Many of those challenges are likely to continue in 2011.

Despite those challenges, we have much to be thankful for.

I am so proud that we have helped dozens of people have shelter out of the cold. That accomplishment is not only profound, it has deep meaning at the time of the year when we pause to give thanks.

During this past week, our city crews have worked around the clock to keep our streets and sidewalks as passable and safe as possible.

Finally, the council has a budget before them that protects jobs and continues service. I am so grateful that we are not giving layoff notices during this season.

I want to thank all of you for your hard work and commitment to our community.

Chrystal and I wish each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving.
