Winter weather keeps Edmonds road crews, police hopping

It’s been a busy few days for City of Edmonds employees, with snow and ice causing traffic delays and minor accidents.

“Our street crews have been working around the clock to keep our streets as safe and drivable as possible,” said Edmonds Mayor Mike Cooper. “The sun has helped, however the evening will bring dangerous icing conditions.” Because of hazardous weather, Tuesday night’s Edmonds City Council meeting has been canceled.

A reminder that the City has developed a map of priority routes for sanding and plowing. Citizens should use that as a guide for planning their travels until the snow and ice disappears.

Edmonds Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Don Anderson said Tuesday that road conditions have kept police on their toes as well. “This morning, traffic was quite a bit lighter and there were fewer people commuting, but yesterday morning was a mess with people sliding all over the place,” Anderson said. “We responded to one collision after the other all morning.”

One question that Edmonds citizens have asked about is garbage pickup. Allied Waste offices were closed today, Tuesday, but a recording noted that those who had trash pickup scheduled for Tuesday should place a double amount of waste out for pickup next Tuesday. No word yet on what happens to those with pick up scheduled for Wednesday.
