An exhibit of color photography by former Edmonds Mayor Gary Haakenson begins today, Dec. 16, at the Edmonds Library and runs through Jan. 28, 2011. The exhibit is presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission.
Haakenson’s interest in photography developed when he started taking photographs of the sunsets from his home in Edmonds. Next came photos of eagles and whales, and soon he was taking pictures of “just about anything,” the Arts Commission said. The exhibit includes a variety of photographs taken in Hawaii, Arizona, Washington D.C. and Edmonds.
Haakenson served as Mayor of Edmonds from 2000 to 2010. In July, he became the Assistant County Executive for Snohomish County.
Library hours are Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. The Edmonds Library is located at 650 Main St.
