Idah Dilling likes to quilt. So when the 97 -year-old Shoreline woman was looking for a place to donate all the quilts she had made, she called College Place Elementary School teacher Laurie Davis, who attended her church.
Davis, who teaches first grade, came up with the idea of connecting the quilts to reading, by providing her first grade class of 6- and 7-year-olds a chance to snuggle with a warm quilt and a good book.
On Thursday, Dilling made a personal appearance along with the quilts. She provided the class with a brief lesson on how a quilt is made, then let each child choose their favorite.
According to Edmonds School District spokesperson D.J. Jakala, at the end of the school year, the children get to take their quilts home with them.
I am blown away by this! As a quilter, I know how much work goes into one quilt. What generosity and talent this woman has.
Dear Laurie,
What an amazing gift you and your students have received. I can not wait to come visit and see all of the beautiful quilts.
