Firefighters respond to walkway roof collapse at Ranch 99 Thursday night

No one was injured when a roof over a walkway collapsed outside Ranch 99 Market on Highway 99 in Edmonds Thursday night.

Firefighters responded at 10:08 p.m. to Ranch 99, located in the 22500 block of Highway 99, after dispatchers received reports of a problem from the building’s alarm company and employees at a neighboring espresso stand.

“Firefighters arrived to find a section of the covered walkway roof in front of the strip mall had collapsed. Sprinkler pipes in the overhang were broken and flowing water. Windows and glass doors under the collapse area were broken, and there was about a foot of standing water in front of the building,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1, which provides fire and emergency medical service in the City of Edmonds.

Businesses in the section of the strip mall where the collapse occurred had closed for the night and were unoccupied. No one was injured.

Firefighters shut down the building’s sprinkler system and cleared drains to remove the standing water. It has not been determined at this time how the collapse occurred.
