Last month, Edmonds business owner Angie Bryant of Ternion Results launched her “Turkey, Ham and Bucks — No Clucks” campaign in an effort to ensure that every Edmonds Food Bank family received a nice holiday meal for their table. We received this wonderful note from Bryant Friday reporting on the generosity of those who donated to this effort, and we wanted to share it with My Edmonds News readers.
As this year is now dwindling and I am looking back at 2010, I wanted to make sure to recap with you about the project for the food bank. Every time that I think about it, I am just blown away at the gift that it was to me. Sure I know that when you are of service, you get what you give tenfold, but to experience it — such a blessing. The conversations with folks in our community were fabulous. They shared with the turkey, ham, or cash donation, but they were even more generous in their sharing of themselves through their stories.
There were also several folks that donated their time to help on distribution day. In addition to it being a holiday week, the food bank would be closed the following week so the amount of food to go through was even larger so having extra hands around was great. There was a mom-and-daughter team that came down and I thought about the lessons that the daughter would learn. Another woman who was looking for a community to contribute to and found it. And two neighbors met for the first time to find that they live across the street from each other.
Congratulations and a huge thank you for your part in this! We did good for our community. The conversations that were a result of this project ensured that everyone got what they needed, whether it was turkey, ham,
inspiration, contribution, or a community to belong to.Looks like this will be an annual event.
