Berg scores 23 in Warriors’ first-round playoff loss to Arlington

Zack Berg scored 23 points, including three 3-pointers, but Edmonds-Woodway dropped its first Northwest District 4A playoff game to Arlington, 75-64. Next up for the Warriors is a loser-out playoff game against Stanwood on the Warriors’ home court this Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

E-W trailed by just two, 18-16,  at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored 20-13 in the second period and never recovered. The Warriors also were plagued by inconsistent free throw shooting, hitting just 2-for-8 from the line in the first half. The Eagles took a 38-29 lead into the locker room at halftime, and maintained a comfortable 58-46 edge at the end of the third.

Berg, who was 7 of 8 from the field and 3 for 5 from the 3-point line, tried to ignite the Warriors with a big bucket at the start of the fourth, but E-W was unable to score and Arlington was up 62-48 with 6:31 left in the game. The Warriors were able to trim the deficit slightly, thanks in part to two 3s from Scott Douglas late in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles came away with a 75-64 win.

Edmonds-Woodway scoring: Grant Pattison 7, Joon Choi 9, Zack Berg 23, Scott Douglas 6, Josh Jordan 4, Travis Bakken 11, Devin Joseph 2, Tyler Brudevold 2
