Edmonds-Woodway High School Athletic Director Julie Stroncek provided an update late Saturday morning for our local athletes competing in state championships:
If you find yourself heading south this afternoon, both Ryan DeWeese and Mac Hutchison have made it to the finals in the 4A State Wrestling Tournament and will be wrestling for the state championship this evening!! Final matches begin at 5 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome. Ryan’s match would be around 6:00ish and Mac’s would follow. Please send good vibes their way this evening. This is such an incredible accomplishment. Andrew Vulliet and Matthew Cuzzetto are both alive in the consolation matches and will be wrestling again soon this morning. Andrew has a chance for 3rd if he can win his next two matches. Matthew will be wrestling this afternoon for 7th/8th. The E-W team has done a great job. They were in 9th place overall after yesterday!
In the state swim meet, Peter Doolittle has advanced to the consolation finals in the 500 meters this afternoon.
Also a reminder that the Edmonds-Woodway girls and Meadowdale boys basketball teams are playing tonight in loser-out games for berths to the state tournament. The E-W girls take on Marysville-Pilchuck at Marysville-Pilchuck High School at 6 p.m., while the Meadowdale boys face Mountlake Terrace at Mountlake Terrace High School, also at 6 p.m.
