Support new murals by attending Edmonds Mural Society Gala March 26

Michiko Tanaka's "Edmonds Waterpark" will be painted alongside Waterfront Coffee Shop this summer.

The Edmonds Mural Society last week announced the five winning murals to be painted on the walls of downtown Edmonds buildings between July 4 and Sept. 15.

Now comes the important part: Covering the expenses related to the murals, including artists’ royalty fees and materials (paint and any needed equipment.) You can support this effort by attending the Edmonds’ Mural Society’s gala auction fundraiser on Saturday, March 26, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Edmonds Senior Center. Tickets are $35, which includes a 2011 Mural Society membership.

Paintings depicting each of the five murals will be available to the highest bidder. Edmonds restaurants are providing delectable treats, with samplings from Arnie’s, Chanterelle, Demetri’s Woodstone Taverna, The Loft, Epulo Bistro and the Resident Cheesemonger, to name a few. In addition, Arista Wine Cellars will offer tasty libations.

Patrons can also enjoy a silent auction that includes art from our many local artists, plus fine items from our downtown Edmonds merchants.  Featured entertainment includes a magic show courtesy of Bruce Meyers and music by the Edmonds-Woodway High School jazz combo.

So far, the Edmonds Mural Society has raised six murals in the downtown Edmonds core, and this summer’s work will bring the total to 11. In addition to funding the murals, the society’s 200-plus members choose each year’s theme and vote on their favorite new mural each fall.

You can find more information about the murals, as well as how to purchase auction tickets, here.
